Explaining The Difference Between Soft And Hard Coloured Contact Lenses

Have you ever used coloured contact lenses ever in your life? Well, you must have at least seen people using coloured contact lenses every now and then if you yourself haven’t used them. These are amazing fashion products and you would see them going all out to get their favourite coloured lenses, some would buy red contacts wholesale while others would go for green coloured lenses. Just like that there are many different choices available.

Just like different colours and shades there are many different types of coloured contact lenses. One of the most important ones are the soft coloured contact lenses and the hard coloured contact lenses. Hard coloured contact lenses are also known as the rigid gas permeable lenses (RGP). Everyone uses either the soft or hard lenses depending on their requirements or preferences or what type suits them best. That is why we are going to discuss the both types of coloured lenses, the soft and hard, in some detail.

Soft Contact Lenses

Soft coloured contact lenses are made of silicone hydrogel, they are made with more water content in them so they can provide more oxygen to the eyes. As they are made with softer material and they have more water content, they are more comfortable on the eye and they can be worn for much longer periods than other coloured contact lenses.

Because they are made with softer and lighter material, they are very commonly used to make daily disposable coloured lenses as the lenses are used usually for events and fashion purposes. So when you are wearing just for fashion purposes you would want complete comfort and soft contact lenses provide the best comfort of all the lenses. That is why soft lenses are best for Halloween and parties.

But because they are so soft and light, these lenses are not that durable compared to the hard contact lenses. That is why they are not much suitable to be used for weekly and monthly disposable lenses. Because they are not so durable they can tear and get damaged much easily, they have a shorter life.

While they are mostly used for daily disposable lenses, you can still find some weekly and monthly disposable soft coloured contact lenses. If you are going to use them in the weekly and monthly category you are required to take proper care for them. Clean them with the disinfectant solution and store them in the storage case safely.

Hard Contact Lenses

Hard coloured contact lenses are also known as the rigid gas permeable coloured contact lenses. They are made with a harder material, but they are created such that they provide sufficient oxygen provision to the eyes. This makes them quite comfortable to wear even when the material is hard.

They are also made much more durable than the softer coloured lenses and they are widely available in the weekly, monthly disposable and the extended coloured contact lenses.

Hard coloured contact lenses are also used for vision correction and because they are more rigid and durable they do not lose their shape unlike the soft coloured lenses. They are better at living a longer life than the softer lenses. But they cannot provide the comfort that soft coloured lenses provide.

The extended coloured contact lenses are another type that are made with hard contact lenses. These lenses are made with durable material so that they can be worn for more than 60 days.

Coloured Contact Lenses & The Safety Measures

Another thing about coloured contact lenses is that they are very popular, especially among the younger generations. They have different coloured tints like the opaque and enhancement tints that change or enhance the colour of the eyes at will. You will look extremely beautiful yet so natural. They are the perfect fashion accessory one could ever had in these times.

That all said you must be careful about using these coloured contact lenses. Soft or hard, coloured lenses are medical devices and you need to use them with extra care. There are certain rules that you need to follow to ensure that you are using them safely.

  • Always buy from respected and trustworthy stores or online stores. Never buy from beauty salons or small shops.
  • Keep your hands clean by washing them before touching your lenses.
  • Do not share your coloured lenses with your friends or family.
  • Never wear your coloured contact lenses for long hours. Even with extra gas permeability, these lenses cover the eyes and do hinder oxygen to get to your eyes.
  • Take off your coloured contact lenses before going to bed. Never wear them when you are going to sleep.

Make sure you are very careful in every way when you are using coloured contact lenses.
